I started to become infatuated with movies later in life, at the age of 18 after taking an introductory to film class as a freshman in college.
Before that class, I never considered movies as art but as entertainment, I also did not really know any movies other than the big franchises like Star Wars.
Now I enjoy all types of movies, whether they are huge blockbusters or independent films that don’t even secure a theatrical release.
My love of movies quickly turned into a love of the theatrical experience and all it provided. I love seeing movies in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, Cinemark XD, etc.
However, films only play in theaters for a very short amount of time and I was severely disappointed with the technology I was using at home to watch these movies.
This was especially the case when it came to sound. I was listening to films with great sound mixes like Mad Max Fury Road, Dune, and Star Wars through my TV speakers.
I was underwhelmed to say the least. Ever since I’ve started to take my home theater setup more seriously.
I’ve since invested in a Sony OLED, Sonos sound system (soundbar and speakers) and have started collecting movies in 4K Blu-Ray, which is the highest-quality imaging format that is widely available.
This led me to document some of my experiences here on Home Theater Oasis as well as answer readers’ questions as well as my own.
