One dilemma that many face when upgrading their bedroom television is determining the ideal screen size.
With options ranging from small 32-inch screens to gigantic 75-inch displays, finding the right balance between size and comfort is crucial.
In this blog post, we’ll explore the question: Is a 55-inch TV too big for your bedroom?
A 55-inch TV is the most popular and best option for a bedroom. You probably don’t want to get a TV any larger or smaller than that size.
If you are sitting at a distance of more than 9 feet from the wall then it is advisable to get a bigger TV, however.
I will go over what 48-inch TVs to consider if you don’t want to go with a 55-inch, as well as the best 55-inch TVs to buy.
A 55-inch TV is the perfect size for a bedroom
If your bedroom ranges anywhere from 10×10-12×12 a 55-inch TV will be perfect.
I can personally attest to this as I have a rather small bedroom and am happy with my 55-inch Sony TV, in fact sometimes I wish I had a 65-inch!
This size provides a cinematic feel without dominating the room.
It’s large enough to deliver immersive visuals, making movie nights or gaming sessions enjoyable, yet not so large that it overshadows the bedroom’s other elements.
The TV fits perfectly on the wall opposite my bed, turning my bedroom into a cozy mini theater.
Its size ensures that I can comfortably view content from my bed without straining my eyes, enhancing my relaxation time after a long day.
What’s more, a 55-inch TV can also serve as a focal point for the bedroom, adding a touch of modernity and sophistication to the overall decor.
Its sleek design and ample screen size make it an aesthetically pleasing addition to the room, enhancing both functionality and style.
How far should you be from a 55-inch TV?

Misinformation regarding 4K TV’s
If you listen to conventional wisdom you will hear that the optimal distance to sit from a 55-inch 4K TV is 5-6 feet which is very misleading.
This distance would cause eye strain and probably make you kink your neck to look at a screen.
Technically you will not be able to see the difference in resolution if you sit beyond 6 feet from a 55 inch but you don’t buy a 4K TV for resolution, you buy it to experience high dynamic range or HDR.
I’ve covered HDR in detail in many blog posts on this site, here is a brief description.
Most people can’t even tell the difference between 1080p and 4K.
Keep this in mind, this is why I said the same distance applies whether it’s a 1080p TV or 4K.
Personally, I sit 9 feet from my 55-inch TV and the picture quality is amazing.

Wall Mounting vs Stand: Why one will give you less space than the other
Mounting the TV to the wall will give you more space.
A TV stand will give you less space if the cabinet you are putting the stand on is not right up against the wall, you are probably losing 2 feet if you have a stand.
There is also a chance that your TV stand might not fit your TV.
If you ever decide to get a soundbar then mounting your TV to the wall is highly advised as you want your soundbar mounted to the wall below your TV.

A 48-inch is the smallest you want to go with
I have two 48-inch TV’s in my house and am thrilled with both. If you decide that a 55-inch is too big for your bedroom then I highly recommend getting a 48-inch.
I have the Sony A90K (affiliate link) for my living room and guest bedroom. Anything smaller than 48 inches will result in less immersion if you want to watch movies on the TV.

If you want to go with a much cheaper brand then I recommend considering TVs from TCL, Hi sense, and Westinghouse.
